Is protecting data containers enough?

In the past, data was much more stationary as were computers, but now we have a number of (very) mobile devices which can be constantly connected to cloud and were more collaboration implies more data exchange, the data is spreading substantially more.

Some organizations try to limit what users can do, but this strategy is failing as we can stop technology or more modern and efficient ways to work together.

The typical ways to address these challenges have been:

1. Traditional Data Loss Prevention
The challenge is that they are very difficult to maintain and have a high resulting cost.

2. User data analytics
They tend to be very noisy and not actionable

3. Cloud Access Security Brokers
They have limited scope of visibility and management complexity

4. Labelling of information and related rules
The classic way but needs great discipline by all users and may limit traditionally users in their collaboration work.

5. Security education and awareness
The will always be necessary, but they may not be specific or contextual.
